Rolls-Royce Unveils First Droptail Coachbuild: La Rose Noire

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars recently released the captivating Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail, an audacious and alluring coachbuilt masterpiece. Unveiled privately near Pebble Beach in California, the La Rose Noire is the four-wheel vision of a globally distinguished family renowned for their luxury and discernment.

The La Rose Noire Droptail draws inspiration from the Black Baccara rose, a velvety flower cherished by the commissioning family matriarch. The deep pomegranate hue appears nearly black in shadow, revealing a crimson pearlescent glimmer in direct light.

The exterior boasts the luminous True Love red. And much like the Black Baccara rose, the car’s color shifts when viewed from different angles. An undisclosed base coat is layered with five applications of clear lacquer, each infused with a slightly varied tone of red.

The duotone motif extends to the Hydroshade dark finish gracing La Rose Noire Droptail’s brightwork. Uniquely developed for this project, it involves a specific chrome electrolyte introduced during chrome plating, forming a mere one-micron-thick layer — the width of a strand of spider silk. This reflective finish continues within select interior metal details, meticulously hand-polished to achieve an impeccable gloss.

A removable hardtop confers two distinct personas upon the Droptail: an open-top roadster, and a commanding coupé when the roof is in place. The Bespoke roof also features an electrochromic glass segment, transitioning to near-translucent at the touch of a button, beckoning passengers to explore the world above.

A notable exterior element is the treatment of the striking alloy wheels, finished in the dark Mystery paint. Resembling the flower, the finish appears black from afar, revealing deep red undertones in sunlight.

The interior of this extraordinary vehicle showcases the most intricate form of parquetry ever realized by Rolls-Royce. It is the result of nearly two years of relentless development, experimentation, and artisanal craftsmanship.

The Black Sycamore wood, sourced from France, pays homage to the La Rose Noire’s French heritage. Each triangle is painstakingly cut, sanded, and meticulously positioned by hand. The assembly required the undivided attention of a single craftsman over a period of nine months.. The vehicle’s fascia features an integrated one-of-a-kind timepiece by Audemars Piguet, commissioned exclusively by the client.

In addition, the owners commissioned an exclusive vintage of Champagne de Lossy to commemorate their Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail.
